Spring Lake is a wonderful town to spend the summer due to its clear spring-fed water, proximity to Lake Michigan and its array of things to do outdoors. However, Michigan weather is incredibly unpredictable. One day it’s 85 degrees and sunny and the next day it’s 68 degrees and raining. Luckily, there are a ton of indoor activities to do in west Michigan. Don’t let dicey weather stop you from enjoying Spring Lake. Plan your trip, but consider the following options if you have unfortunate weather.
- Visit the Tri-Cities Museum
You’ve made the trip to Spring Lake, but why not travel back in time as well? At the Tri-City Museum, stories from the past come to life in both local and world history exhibits. You can look forward to experiencing exhibits on the logging industry, fur trade, and pioneer lodging. But also, check the website for a list of new exhibits taking place during your visit.
- Watch a movie at the Grand Haven 9
Though it may seem like the obvious rainy day activity, seeing a movie at the Grand Haven 9 is a special experience. Inside you’ll find arcade games and refreshments to enjoy while you wait for your movie to start. The theaters are quaint yet spacious and equipped with rocking chairs. With free drink refills and 50¢ popcorn refills, how can you say no? A rainy day is the perfect excuse to see that summer blockbuster your friends have been talking about.
- Live it up at Michigan’s Adventure
With less than ideal weather conditions during your “Michigan adventure” there’s still a way to have a fun-filled vacation that includes water, tubing and river rides. Michigan’s largest amusement park and water park is located in Muskegon, just north of Spring Lake. Take a day trip to Michigan’s Adventure and experience thrilling roller coasters, water slides, lazy rivers and more.
- Tour the Frederik Meijer Gardens
For an experience that can be enjoyed indoors and outdoors, visit the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Ever-changing exhibits will wow you with beauty and spark your curiosity. Schedule a tour of the gardens or leisurely stroll through the exhibits of your choosing. The Meijer Gardens are open all year long (with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day). No matter the weather or season, the Meijer Gardens are a must see.
- Go antiquing
Shopping malls become crowded on rainy days. If poor weather comes your way while visiting Spring Lake, try shopping at the local antique shops. Though you may not find the latest trends, you’re likely to encounter unique treasures. Part of the fun is the mystery of what you’ll discover. You might find gifts, home décor or perhaps a personal delicacy to remind you of your time in Spring Lake. Start your antiquing jaunt at the Spring Lake Antique Mall and Depot Antiques.
